Engie wins SECI bid for 200MW solar PV-600MWh battery project in India

Engie has secured a 200 MW solar project paired with a 100 MW/600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in India. The project was awarded through a competitive bidding process conducted by the Solar Energy Corp. of India (SECI).
This marks Engie’s first hybrid solar-plus-storage project in India. The company will develop the project on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis, supplying power under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to be signed with SECI.
The latest win follows Engie securing its first standalone BESS project of 280 MW/560 MWh in November. Engie currently has nearly 2 GW of renewable assets in operation and under construction across India.

The project will now move into the next phase of development, including detailed engineering, procurement, and regulatory approvals, followed by construction. Engie will work closely with technology partners, suppliers, and relevant authorities to ensure timely and compliant execution.
The French company’s recent activities include its initial stand-alone BESS project with a capacity of 280MW/560MWh, awarded in November 2025 under Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited’s national tender.
This facility, scheduled for commissioning in 2027, will provide two hours of electricity storage to help balance supply during periods of low demand and high consumption.
These projects form part of Engie’s strategy to increase its installed renewable and energy storage capacity in India to 7GW by 2030.
Large-scale storage is seen as essential to supporting grid stability and reliable clean power delivery as India pursues its target of reaching 500GW of renewable energy generation by the end of the decade.
Globally, Engie reported having 55GW of renewable and storage capacity in operation as of September 2025.
