Huawei Digital Power to supply batteries for Denmark’s largest BESS project
21 July 2025
Copenhagen Energy’s 132 MWh Everspring battery energy storage system (BESS) portfolio will source its technology from Huawei Digital Power. This project is scheduled for grid readiness by spring 2026.
Denmark’s energy grid, which has been a frontrunner in incorporating wind power, remains exposed to periods of imbalance and price fluctuation, and BESS installations will offer useful management and optimization.
The Everspring portfolio, financed by Ringkjøbing Landbobank, is intended to provide flexible capacity to the Danish grid. Energrid, a Danish contractor, is serving as the EPC for the project. It is designed as a “two-site blueprint.”
Huawei Digital Power’s BESS technology was selected for this application, with a signing ceremony occuring back in June. The system’s design incorporates multi-layered safety features, and its battery packs, designated “Panshi,” have undergone DNV-verified ignition tests. Huawei Digital Power is also recognized as a Tier 1 Power Inverter and Energy Storage Manufacturer by BNEF. It’s not yet known if Huawei’s Smart String Grid-Forming ESS platform will be used to provide grid support services, including inertia and short-circuit current.
Grid-forming in Cambodia
In related news, Huawei Digital Power, in collaboration with SchneiTec, recently commissioned Cambodia’s first TÜV SÜD-certified grid-forming energy storage project on June 11, 2025. This 12 MWh system includes a 2 MWh testbed that validated Huawei’s grid-forming ESS technology. The project demonstrated its ability to stabilize the grid and facilitate renewable energy integration in weak-grid scenarios, receiving independent verification of its performance from TÜV SÜD, through joint testing by the verifier plus SchneiTec and Huawei Digital Power.
