Chinese Firm Wins Rwanda Sludge Treatment Contract
28 May 2024The Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC) of Rwanda has awarded China Geo-Engineering Corporation a US$2.9 million contract to build a faecal sludge treatment plant and landfill for Musanze town in the Northern Province.
The project duration is 12 months.
The contract was tendered in September 2022 as Lot 1 of a wider project to also build sludge treatment plants and landfills at Rubavu, Karongi and Rusizi towns in the Western Province.
Six bids were received in total for Lot 1. Details of the award can be viewed here.
The contracts for Lot 2 covering Rubavu and Lot 3 covering Karongi and Rusizi have yet to be awarded.
In June last year, China Geo-Engineering Corporation was also awarded a US$9.9 million contract by WASAC for phase one of the Kivu Belt Water Supply System in the Rutsiro and Karongi districts of the Western Province.
The 18-month contract covers the construction of a water treatment plant with a capacity of 13,000 cubic metres a day, a raw water intake, concrete tanks and pressure breakers, inspection chambers and water points, as well as the supply and installation of 124km of pipes and a pumping station.
