The Groundbreaking Ceremony of The 100 MW Photovoltaic Project Held In Tunisia
15 May 2024
On May 8, the groundbreaking ceremony of the 100MW photovoltaic project in Kairouan, Tunisia, jointly contracted by China Energy Engineering Corporation Tianjin Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. and Northwest Electric Power Design Institute of China Energy Engineering Corporation was held on site. Fatma Tabet Chiboub, the Tunisian Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines attended the ceremony.
In her speech, Fatma Tabet Chiboub said that the Kairouan photovoltaic project is the first large-scale ground photovoltaic power station in Tunisia, and also the largest single photovoltaic power station currently under construction in Tunisia. It can operate for 25 years, generate about 5.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 5 million tons, which is equivalent to planting 12 million trees in the Sahara Desert.
According to reports, the Kairouan photovoltaic project is located in Kairouan, a city in the central-eastern region of Tunisia, covering an area of approximately 200 hectares. It includes the engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operation and maintenance of a 100MW AC photovoltaic power station. After completion, the project will generate 222 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, providing sufficient clean and green renewable energy for Tunisia's industrial and agricultural production as well as people's daily lives. It will play a positive role in promoting the country's energy structure adjustment, industrial transformation and upgrading, economic and social development, and ecological environmental protection.
