Odyssey Energy Solutions Raises $74 Million for Distributed Solar in Emerging Markets

The US-based distributed energy financing platform closes a $74 million round combining equity and debt to accelerate solar deployment across Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Odyssey Energy Solutions, a distributed renewable energy financing platform based in Boulder, Colorado, has announced a $74 million funding round. The financing consists of $27 million in equity and $47 million in debt, according to a company statement. New equity investors include Broadscale Group, FMO and Al Mada Ventures, alongside continued participation from existing investors such as Union Square Ventures, Equal Ventures, Abstract Ventures, Twelve Below, FJ Labs, MCJ and Transition Ventures. On the debt side, British International Investment, BIO, the Facility for Energy Inclusion — represented by Cygnum Capital — and the Energy Entrepreneurs Growth Fund, represented by TripleJump, took part in the deal.

A network of more than 6,000 solar installers

Odyssey's platform connects more than 6,000 solar installers and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies with financiers and equipment suppliers across more than 50 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. According to the company, this network has facilitated access to $3.6 billion in capital for distributed energy projects. "The focus of financing for distributed renewable energy has historically been on post-construction capital — funding that flows once a project is built," said Emily McAteer, co-founder and CEO of Odyssey Energy Solutions. "That has left a significant gap upstream, where thousands of small and medium EPCs and installers lack the working capital needed to procure equipment, complete construction, and unlock customer payments." According to her, Odyssey bridges this gap directly by providing companies with the equipment pricing and financing needed to accelerate project delivery.

Nigeria and India driving demand

In Nigeria, where diesel backup generators supply more electricity than grid-connected power plants according to the International Finance Corporation, diesel prices jumped more than 93% between February and April 2026 following supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. The new capital is intended to expand Odyssey's procurement platform, which aggregates equipment orders from smaller buyers to improve terms negotiated with suppliers.
