The 552-bed paediatric campus be an addition to Clements University Hospital, and will consist of two 12-storey towers and an eight-storey tower. It is being designed by architects HKS and Perkins & Will.

The $5bn development will increase in-patient capacity by 38%, expand the emergency department by 15% and give 22% extra space to carry out operations.

The campus will also contain a paediatric trauma centre, a fetal care centre, 90 ER rooms and 24 observation rooms. It will be linked to Clements by a bridge.

“We’re creating a facility that not only matches that level of care but will allow them to enhance it.”

Construction on the project is due to begin this year and could be complete by 2030. The development is being coordinated by UT Southwestern Medical Centre.
