Team selected for $5bn children’s hospital in Dallas
29 February 2024A joint venture between McCarthy Building and JT Vaughn Construction will construction manage a 4.5 million sq ft children’s hospital in Dallas.
The 552-bed paediatric campus be an addition to Clements University Hospital, and will consist of two 12-storey towers and an eight-storey tower. It is being designed by architects HKS and Perkins & Will.
The $5bn development will increase in-patient capacity by 38%, expand the emergency department by 15% and give 22% extra space to carry out operations.
The campus will also contain a paediatric trauma centre, a fetal care centre, 90 ER rooms and 24 observation rooms. It will be linked to Clements by a bridge.
Rachel Knox, a partner in HKS, said: “The Children’s Health team and the physicians from UT Southwestern who work at Children’s Health are just incredible, compassionate caregivers.
“We’re creating a facility that not only matches that level of care but will allow them to enhance it.”
Construction on the project is due to begin this year and could be complete by 2030. The development is being coordinated by UT Southwestern Medical Centre.
