Agreement signed for US$30 million Airport expansion project in Colombia
2 January 2024
The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) and OPAIN have signed an agreement to build 7 new aircraft parking positions at the air terminal of El Dorado Airport in Colombia. With this, El Dorado will go from having 91 to 98 positions, which will improve the efficiency of the operation.
Implemented measures include reducing aircraft runway occupancy times, optimizing the use of parallel runways, and increasing both parking positions and overall capacity. The El Dorado project covers an area of 49,000 sq m, situated on the southeast side of the north runway. Throughout the project's execution, airport users will experience no disruptions, and operations will continue seamlessly. The expansion project involves an investment of approximately COP 116 billion (USD 30 million). Alongside the creation of new parking spaces, the agreement also encompasses the construction of the JW Tower, a 25-m-high building designed to offer gastro bar services. This addition enhances El Dorado's array of cultural, commercial, and artistic offerings, providing visitors with a memorable experience while transiting through the airport.
The work is expected to begin in the third week of December and last for 23 months.
