Acciona Nordex plans to develop renewables, hydrogen in Brazil's northeast
6 October 2023
Brazil’s Rio Grande do Norte state government has signed a pact with Acciona Nordex Green Hydrogen SL for the development of an industrial chain for low-carbon hydrogen and wind and solar energy.
Acciona Nordex Green Hydrogen is a joint venture between Spain's Acciona and German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex which decided to enter the hydrogen market earlier this year. The newly established company was formed to develop large-scale projects with the aim of producing 500,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually within the next ten years.

According to Rio Grande do Norte's governor Fatima Bezerra, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Acciona Nordex will enable the entire green hydrogen production chain in the state by making use of the structure of Rio Grande do Norte’s industrial port.
Hugo Fonseca, Coordinator for Energy Development at the State Secretariat for Economic Development (Sedec), added that the deal with Acciona Nordex will reduce the costs of setting up the industrial and production chain as the company develops its own technology for producing green hydrogen.
No additional details about the MoU were disclosed by the local government.
