Webuild subsidiary wins $327m Saudi Arabian water treatment plant
12 May 2023Fisia Italimpianti, a subsidiary of Italy’s Webuild Group, has landed two deals worth $350m to build and manage a water treatment plant at the Zuluf offshore oil field in Saudi Arabia.
One of these was a $327m engineering, procurement and construction contract to build a plant that will be able to treat and filter up to 185,000 cubic metres of water a day. This will then be will be reinjected into oil wells to help maintain their pressure.
The project is located in eastern Saudi Arabia, about 6km west of the airport in Tanajib. It is due to be completed over three years and will create 1,500 direct and indirect jobs..
Fisia Italimpianti has also won 20% of a $112m contract to operate and maintain the completed water treatment plant for 25 years. It will work in a joint venture with Almar Water Solutions, Aljomaih Energy and Water and Aquatech International.
The contracts are Fisia Italimpianti’s first in the oil and gas industry and will strengthen Webuild’s position in the water sector.
