UK agrees to support specialist burns hospital in Angola
19 January 2023The UK’s export credit agency, UK Export Finance (UKEF), will provide £130m in guarantees for the construction of a specialist burns hospital in Kilamba, north west Angola.
The seven-storey hospital will contain 250 beds including a ward for burn victims. It will also contain areas dedicated to accident and emergencies, palliative care, pathology services and infection control, as well as general, geriatric and paediatric clinics.
ASGC UK is the management contractor on the project, and will be responsible for 40% of the work including building materials, electrical equipment and medical supplies.
UKEF is working with the Angolan Ministry of Finance, Lloyds Bank and Standard Chartered Bank on the financing.

UKEF has previously financially supported three Angolan hospitals: the General Hospital of Cabinda, the Mother and Child Hospital of Camama and the Hematology Pediatric Hospital in Luanda, Angola’s capital city.
Paul Woodman, ASGC UK’s managing director, said: “During 2022 we successfully handed over three hospitals to the Ministry of Health – also supported by UK Export Finance – and we are honoured that the same client has entrusted us to deliver another important healthcare facility for the people of Angola.”
Construction on the project is due to take five years.
