CRRC-made DMUs are put into operation in Angola
13 August 2022
Recently, the DMUs exported by CRRC Tangshan to Angola started operation on the Luanda Intercity Railway in the country’s capital. Angola is one of the largest railway markets in Africa. After exporting 120 railway passenger cars to Angola in 2012, CRRC Tangshan has won Angola’s order of 10 DMUs through international bidding to provide new meter gauge DMUs between Angola’s capital and airport.
The Angolan DMUs are premium models for the intercity passenger railway. Adopting modular design and with an integrated power pack hanging under the train, the DMU comprises 4 cars, and has a capacity of 696 passengers and a maximum operating speed of 100km/h. The Angolan DMUs are capable of coupled running of three trains, flexibly addressing passenger peaks thus alleviating traffic congestion in the capital Luanda.
It is learned that after successfully exporting 120 railway passenger cars to Angola in 2012, CRRC Tangshan has won Angola’s order of 10 DMUs through international bidding to provide new meter gauge DMUs between Angola’s capital and airport. In addition to those on the Luanda Intercity Railway that have been put into operation, the DMUs will start operation in the two cities of Benguela and Lubango, which will remarkably improve the local transportation environment.
