CIP and Alcemi partner to develop 4GW storage portfolio in UK
23 March 2022
Danish renewable investment firm Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has partnered with UK-based energy storage provider Alcemi to develop, build and operate 4GW worth of energy storage assets across the UK.
The 4GW portfolio is intended to support the country’s integration of renewable energy capacity and its efforts to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
CIP senior partner Christian Skakkebæk said: “We are pleased to partner with Alcemi on such an exciting portfolio of large-scale battery energy storage projects.”
The projects are being built at strategic locations to support the power transmission systems and also minimise the impact of network constraints. They are all currently in late stages of development.
All the energy storage facilities will have capacities of between 300MW and 500MW, with the potential to provide a storage duration of up to four hours.
Under the partnership, Alcemi will develop the projects, while CIP will be responsible for procurement activities.
Construction works are scheduled to begin next year, with further projects planned to enter the construction phase on a regular basis.
