4 March 2025
PowerChina announces that it has signed an EPC contract for Qatar’s 500MW single-cycle peak-Generation gas power plant project with the project owner, Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC).
The Project is located in the Ras Abu Fontas Industrial Zone on the south side of Doha, Qatar.
It is a single-cycle project that Qatar Electricity and Water Company quickly tendered to cope with the peak electricity demand in summer.
The main scope of work includes the design, procurement, construction and commissioning of two F-class gas turbine generator sets and related auxiliary systems. The project is scheduled to be handed over in January 2027 and put into commercial operation.
This project is a key project for the company to actively respond to the country’s “Belt and Road” initiative and seize the development opportunities of natural gas and new energy power stations under Qatar’s “2030 Economic Development Vision”, which will further help Qatar optimize its energy structure. The signing of this contract further expanded the company’s market share in the field of energy engineering in the Middle East, demonstrated China Power Construction’s brand competitiveness in the Middle East power market, and has important strategic significance for the company to deepen its presence in the Middle East market.
