On December 20,2022, President Samia Suluhu Hassanwitnessed the signing of the contract for lot six of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project, which runs from Tabora to Kigoma.

The contract to construct the sixth lot which is about 506km is to be implemented by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and China Railway Construction Company (CRCC). Overall the new contract make the whole project reach the tune of USD $10 Billion, see below infographic for more details.
