Montenegro: Deponija to build bioenergy plant
8 February 2024
Montenegrin company Deponija, the waste management company of Podgorica, plans to build a bioenergy plant and a waste-to-energy incinerator.
-The bioenergy plant project has already been launched and we will soon open a tender for drawing its feasibility study – Deponija head Aleksandar Bozovic said in a video published on the Facebook profile of Podgorica’s city administration.
The bioenergy plant will cost 1.7 million euros, while the incinerator could require an investment of up to 100 million euros.
The incinerator would be built on an area of 600 to 800 square metres. Depending on whether it will produce both electricity and heat, and whether it will cover the needs of Montenegro or Podrorica and its region alone, the project will cost between 35 million euros and 100 million euros, eKapija quoted Bozovic as saying.
Bozovic noted that the project already has a location study. The project will be financed by a credit that should be repaid in the first 5-6 years of the plant’s operations, Bozovic added without providing any financial details.
He noted that Deponija will receive 1 million euro from the city budget this year, for procurement of machinery and the launch of the new projects.
The incinerator could be built by the end of 2028.
