12 January 2024
A consortium led by Saudi-listed ACWA Power has signed a $1.5 billion wind energy agreement with the Egyptian government. The deal involves the development of a 1.1 gigawatt (GW) wind energy project in the Gulf of Suez and Jabal El Zayt regions, Egypt's cabinet office announced on January 10. The project is set to utilise cutting-edge wind turbine technologies, featuring a height of approximately 220 meters, making them the tallest in the Gulf of Suez area. The wind energy project is expected to result in an annual reduction of 2.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, while also creating 6,000 direct and indirect job opportunities.
