French renewable energy developer and producer Tenergie has finalized TENFI 6, a financing operation exceeding €150 million. The transaction comes a few months after the company crossed the symbolic threshold of one gigawatt (GW) of installed capacity in March. It is designed to secure financing for more than 350 projects currently in their final development phase.

A diversified portfolio of solar projects

The portfolio financed by TENFI 6 includes ground-mounted photovoltaic plants totaling 12 megawatts-peak (MWp) and self-consumption projects representing 8 MWp, in addition to rooftop plants, photovoltaic greenhouses and parking canopies. This diversification of solar applications can also be observed elsewhere in the world, as illustrated by the subcontract recently secured by Founder Group décroche un sous-contrat solaire de 1,5 M$ au Kedah in Malaysia, or by the commissioning of a combined solar-and-storage plant covered in CrossBoundary Energy met en service une centrale solaire-batteries en République démocratique du Congo. With close to 140 megawatts (MW) financed, TENFI 6 represents, according to Tenergie, one of the largest operations the company has ever carried out.

Financing for TENFI 6 is provided by Bpifrance, CATE (Crédit Agricole Transitions & Énergies) and La Banque Postale. The three partners are accompanying Tenergie toward its next target of 1.5 GW of installed capacity. The structuring of the deal also mobilized law firms Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner and Jeantet, as well as technical advisor 3E.

An integrated energy-services model

Tenergie's chief executive officer, François Trabucco, said the operation would allow the company to complete development work engaged over several months and years. According to him, it demonstrates both the company's ability to bring a diversified project portfolio to fruition and the lasting confidence of its financial partners. Tenergie now relies on a model combining renewable electricity production, self-consumption, short energy supply chains, flexibility and storage.

This repositioning comes amid a mixed context for the solar sector globally, marked by varying regulatory and investment trajectories across markets, as shown by the freeze on investment in centralized solar plants described in Le Brésil gèle les investissements dans le solaire centralisé face au curtailment. Tenergie, for its part, continues executing its strategy despite what it describes as a turbulent political context for renewable energy in France.

An operation aligned with the company's mission

A mission-driven company since 2020, Tenergie ties each of its major financial operations to a solidarity impact. Alongside Synergie Renouvelable, the renewable energy sector's endowment fund, the company supports energy-access projects run by non-governmental organizations around the world. TENFI 6 will accordingly generate a collective donation of €156,000 from the parties involved in the operation.

Founded in 2008 and based in Fuveau, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, Tenergie currently operates around 2,500 solar plants, wind farms, and methanization and storage units, for a total installed capacity of 1.1 GW. The company enshrined its purpose in its bylaws in 2020, under mission-driven company status.
