Sohar Power puts plant equipment up for sale
7 December 2023
Sohar Power Company SAOG, the owner of the Sohar Power and Desalination Plant, has officially opened the doors for interested parties to participate in the tender for the acquisition of its plant equipment.
It follows a decision by the financially beleaguered company to pursue further legal remedies following the rejection of its bankruptcy application by the Al Seeb primary court on November 13, 2023. Earlier this week, publicly traded Sohar Power announced the filing of an appeal with the Seeb Appeals Court against the earlier verdict.
Nestled within the industrial hub of Sohar Industrial Port, the Sohar Power and Desalination Plant features three Siemens 2000E-SGT5 gas turbines, each paired with a Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG). Manufactured by Doosan Heavy Industries, the dual-pressure natural circulation HRSGs harness gas turbine exhaust to generate both high-pressure and low-pressure steam. Total power generation capacity is 585 MW. This steam is then utilized in a dual-cycle configuration, supplying high-pressure steam to a steam turbine for condensation and extraction. The desalination arm of the plant includes four Multi-Stage Flash (MSF) distillation units.
Other components on auction include seawater pumping systems, water demineralization stations, firewater systems, liquid waste treatment facilities, drinking water infrastructure, emergency diesel generators, chemical dosing systems, fuel oil tanks, a fully-equipped laboratory, workshops, and more.
Sohar Energy LLC says it has a preference for buyers interested in acquiring the entire plant. This includes those with a vision to either continue operations at the existing site or dismantle the equipment for relocation to their business areas, ensuring maximum flexibility for private use.
Interested parties are invited to submit their bids by January 22, 2024.
