Ferrovial Awarded Water Contract in Texas Worth USD146 million
1 February 2023
Ferrovial, through PLW Waterworks, has been awarded a water contract in Texas worth USD 146 million (equivalent to approximately €135 million). The contract consists of expanding the wastewater treatment plant in the city of Pflugerville to nearly double its current capacity, more than 30 million gallons (113 million liters) per day, to meet the needs of an area whose population is expected to reach 200,000 within two decades.
The work includes a pretreatment system, modernization of the membrane filtration plant, expansion of the high service pumping station, and a new recycle pump. The project is scheduled to begin this year and be completed in 2026.
Expansion of the plant
PLW Waterworks has also been chosen to expand the Trinity water treatment plant in New Braunfels, Texas. This contract, worth $20 million (over €18 million), includes installing a new membrane line inside the existing building, building a new water storage tank with a capacity of over 1.5 million gallons (5.6 million liters), and supplying and installing a backwash and recycling tank. The project, which will double the plant’s capacity, will be key to meeting the needs of this fast-growing city. The work will begin early in 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2024.
These two water projects contribute to Ferrovial’s Horizon 24 plan, which identifies the United States as a core market. They also strengthen its focus on sustainable infrastructure with a positive impact on the environment and communities, as is the case with water treatment plants. Ferrovial Construction has been operating in the USA for over 15 years, where it has built vital infrastructures such as the Dallas-Fort Worth managed lanes and segments of the SH 99 Grand Parkway in Houston.
