Swiss contractor Implenia will lead a consortium building a steel composite motorway bridge over the Kiel Canal in northern Germany.
DEGES, the state agency in charge of Germany’s road network, awarded the contract to replace the A7 Rader Hochbrücke to a team made up of Implenia and two German steel specialists: Plauen Stahl Technologie and Zwickauer Sonderstahlbau.
Implenia will be the technical lead for the work, and main contactor for DEGES. Plauen Stahl will be the commercial lead.
The project is worth €250m, of which €100 will go to Implenia. The remaining €150m will be split between the other two consortium members.
The bridge will be 1,500m long and 42m high, and will carry the A7 motorway east of Rendsburg in Schleswig-Holstein.
Christian Späth, the head of Implania’s civil engineering division, commented in a press statement: “The planning and construction of the new Rader Hochbrücke is another complex infrastructure project in Germany and fits perfectly with Implenia’s strategy. The award of the contract followed an intense, six-month tender process.”
