21 October 2022
Webuild’s subsidiary Fisia Italimpianti has won a $144-million (€144-million) contract to build three water treatment plants for a new pulp mill being developed in Paraguay, a contract that will diversify the business portfolio of a global leader in water treatment and desalination and reinforce its role as builder of projects that support sustainable development.
Commissioned by private client Paracel SA, Fisia Italimpianti will build the plants near the Paraguay River near the city of Concepción, Paraguay. Work is expected to start in the first semester of 2023. The contract will reinforce Webuild’s ranking as leader in the water sector by revenue among global contractors in the latest survey by influential U.S. magazine Engineering News-Record (ENR).
Fisia Italimpianti, which owns 100% of the Engineering, Construction and Procurement (EPC) contract, will build a plant to treat water from the river at a capacity of 7,000 cubic metres per hour, a demineralization water plant for 1,350 cubic metres per hour, and an effluent treatment plant with a capacity of 6,600 cubic metres per hour within the complex of the pulp mill.
Fisia Italimpianti is best known for its water treatment and desalination plants, which have come to serve more than 20 million people on a daily basis, especially in Middle East. Elsewhere in South America, it and its parent Webuild are involved in the construction of a hydraulic tunnel and a pre-treatment plant for wastewater in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
