Skanska to build €101m Helsinki bus and tram terminal
5 July 2022
Swedish contractor Skanska has signed a €101m contract with a subsidiary of publicly owned City Transport Ltd, to build a tram and bus depot in Helsinki, Finland’s capital. The depot will house 100 trams and provide space for daily maintenance, cleaning and repair work.
A parking area will contain room for 200 buses, with a bus maintenance room based on the depot’s roof.
The project aims to be certified to BREEAM “Excellent” level, with goals in place for waste management, energy and resource efficiency.
The depot will be used day and night, which Skanska said would allow energy recycling within the building.
Construction began in the fourth quarter of 2021 and is due to be completed in the first quarter of 2024.
