Flatiron wins $267 million EBMUD Orinda Water Treatment Project
14 March 2022Flatiron has been awarded the Orinda Water Treatment Plant Disinfection and Chemical Systems Safety Improvements Project in Orinda, California. This project is a part of the Water Treatment and Transmission Improvements Program for East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD).
Valued at more than $267 million, the project will upgrade and replace existing facilities and construct new facilities at the Orinda Water Treatment Plant.
Notable project highlights include:
- Demolition and replacement of chemical feed systems; including installation of a temporary chemical feed and storage system during construction and other improvements related to chemical, worker and environmental safety.
- Construction of a new Ultraviolet (UV) Disinfection Facility comprised of a new two-story maintenance and UV electrical building plus a below-grade Chlorine Contact Basin complex.
- Procurement and installation of two electrical buildings and other supporting facilities.
- Pipeline installation and modification of the raw water spillway.
Throughout the project, Flatiron will collaborate with EBMUD to seek innovative solutions to project challenges—with clear focus on improving current water treatment processes and achieving long-term water quality goals. This requires delivering reliable water treatment infrastructure that meets long-term operational needs and continues to meet drinking water and environmental regulations.
Flatiron also is under contract with EBMUD for the $31 million Maloney Pumping Plant Project awarded in 2019. This new award strengthens Flatiron’s position in the water market sector. Further, it is consistent with Flatiron’s strategy to build on successful relationships in local markets and to secure contracts with a balanced risk profile.
Some of Flatiron’s other current water projects include the Georgetown Wet Weather Treatment Station in Seattle, the Morena Pump Station in San Diego, and the Marcy Gulch Wastewater Treatment Plant in Colorado.
Construction for Orinda Water project is expected to begin later this year and complete in 2027.
