Infinity Power and Hassan Allam Utilities Energy have commenced full-scale construction of the Nefer Minya solar and battery energy storage project in West Minya, Egypt.
The main construction phase follows the signing of the Notice to Proceed (NTP), marking a key milestone for the project.
The facility will feature 1.2GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity and a 600MW-hours (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS).
According to the companies, the BESS will store solar energy generated during the day and release it during peak evening hours. It will help stabilise Egypt’s grid and integrate additional renewable energy into the national electricity network.
Infinity Power and Hassan Allam Utilities Energy are jointly developing the project.
A joint venture between Hassan Allam Construction and Sterling & Wilson will deliver engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services. The companies state that the project will combine local and international expertise.
Early construction work began in June 2026. The project targets commercial operations by September 2027.
Electricity generated at the new site will be sold to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company under a 25-year power purchase agreement.
Once operational, the Nefer Minya plant is expected to provide clean electricity for about 1.4 million households annually.
The project is also expected to avoid approximately 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions per year, according to the developers.
It aims to improve grid flexibility, bolster Egypt’s energy security, and support national decarbonisation efforts.
Infinity Power has set a target of achieving 10GW of operational renewable energy capacity by 2032.
The Nefer Minya project is considered a significant step towards that goal and a notable addition to Egypt’s ongoing transition to cleaner energy sources.
Recently, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced arranging syndicated loans of up to $265m (€236.1m) to finance construction of the Nefer Minya solar power project.
