9 October 2026
On October 5, 2026, the pharmaceutical plant invested by Türkiye’s GEN İlaç was officially inaugurated at Pirallahi Industrial Park in Azerbaijan, with the President of Azerbaijan attending the ceremony. This greenfield FDI project totals 113.9 million Azerbaijani manats and occupies a land area of 5.2 hectares, making it Azerbaijan’s largest domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing base. The facility can produce 60 million boxes of medicines, equivalent to 2.5 billion tablets and capsules per year, covering cardiovascular, neurological, gastrointestinal, antibiotic and other drug categories for the South Caucasus market.
Türkiye’s GEN İlaç holds a 66% stake in the project entity, with remaining shares owned by Azerbaijani state-affiliated funds. The plant aims to cut Azerbaijan’s reliance on imported medicines and localize production of over 500 drug varieties within five years. It has obtained environmental approvals and GMP certification, and will keep expanding its product portfolio.
