A W Edwards, an Australian subsidiary of France’s Bouygues Construction, has won a €1.2bn contract to expand the SYD3 data centre campus in western Sydney for Australian data centre company AirTrunk.

The expanded facility will provide data storage and processing capability for the growing demand in cloud computing, artificial intelligence and digital services.

Bouygues Construction says A W Edwards will use low-carbon concrete and 100% Australian-made steel reinforcement, at least 86% of which will be made from recycled content.

The project aims to recycle 90% of non-hazardous construction waste with help from Site Cycle, a company that turns recovered materials into new construction products. 10,000 jobs will be created during construction.

Work on the project is due to begin this month and is scheduled for completion in mid-2028.

AirTrunk plans to invest a further €48bn in Australia across the next decade.
