Consortium secures Philippines' first grid connection deals for 1,650 MW offshore wind

A partnership of Seawind Asia AG, Stream Invest Holdings AG and Triconti ECC Renewables secured grid connection agreements for offshore wind farms with a total capacity of 1,650 megawatts in the Philippines, marking a historic milestone for the country’s renewable energy sector.

The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines granted the agreements for the Frontera Bay project at 450 MW, along with the Guimaras Strait and Guimaras Strait II projects at 600 MW each. The projects have estimated costs of P81.675 billion, P110.88 billion and P110.88 billion, respectively.

The consortium said these commitments underscore the growing maturity of the regulatory and energy market framework in the Philippines. The projects are currently in advanced preparation for the fifth round of the Green Energy Auction Program scheduled for 2026.

“These grid connection commitments are a breakthrough—not only for our projects but for the entire offshore wind industry in the Philippines,” said Sea Wind Management GmbH and Triconti ECC managing-director Sascha Lindemann.

“They demonstrate that offshore wind is no longer a vision but a tangible reality in the country,” said Lindemann.

Triconti ECC, the local partner, attributed the progress to cooperation between national authorities, grid operators and local stakeholders. The group expects the offshore wind developments to contribute significantly to the long-term decarbonization and security of the Philippine energy system.

“The issuance of the country’s first offshore grid connection agreements sends a strong signal to investors and project developers,” said Triconti Director of Regulatory and Markets Theo Sunico.

“It highlights the real value that international partnerships can bring to the country’s green energy transition,” said Sunico.

The consortium will now intensify development to ensure participation in the upcoming auction and move the projects toward realization.
