Italy’s GSE awards 1.1 GW of solar in NZIA-compliant FER X auction
12 December 2025
The awarded capacity cleared at a weighted average tariff of EUR 66.378 (USD 77.85) per MWh, reflecting an average discount of 27.7%. The highest awarded tariff reached EUR 73/MWh, GSE said on Wednesday.
The auction -- run under the transitional FER X framework and aligned with the EU’s Net Zero Industry Act (NZIA) -- applied non-price criteria linked to the Act’s objectives, including industrial resilience and supply-chain considerations.
The call for tenders drew expressions of interest amounting to 273 applications for a total of 3,161 MW. On the basis of that, quotas were set at 200 MW minimum, 900 MW target and 1,600 MW maximum.
Bidders submitted 157 applications for projects totalling 1,846 MW from which the final 88 were selected, GSE said in a summary note.
Most of the eligible projects have a capacity of under 10 MW, 13 have a capacity ranging from 10 MW to 50 MW, with four set to deliver more than 50 MW per project.
Developers with awarded projects must provide a definitive guarantee within 90 days, calculated on the admitted capacity. The publication triggers a 36-month deadline for plants to enter operation.
The successful bidders includes notable developers such as Enel Green Power, X-Elio, ContourGlobal, Ellomay and Trina Solar.
