GS Inima secures financing to build PV Plant at Oman desalination project
19 June 2025
GS Inima has secured the necessary financing to build a 6.3MWp photovoltaic plant at the Barka V desalination plant in Oman. This milestone will facilitate the integration of renewable energy into critical infrastructure and strengthens the company’s commitment to a sustainable water management model.
The use of renewable sources such as solar energy is especially relevant in countries like Oman, where the combination of high temperatures, solar availability, and the need to guarantee sustainable access to water makes these types of solutions a key tool. Integrating clean energy into infrastructures such as Barka V enables the optimization of resource use, the reduction of the carbon footprint, and progress towards a more environmentally friendly energy model.
The new facility, designed for self-consumption, will cover approximately 11% of Barka V’s energy consumption until 2044. It will be built on an area of 40,000 m² and will be designed, executed, operated, and maintained by GS Inima.
The financing was made possible with the support of COFIDES, a Spanish public-private entity that promotes the internationalization and sustainability of companies by providing financing for investment projects.
Barka V, operational since June 2024, is GS Inima’s first project in the Middle East. With a production capacity of 100,000 m³ per day, it supplies more than 800,000 people in the Muscat and Batinah regions, two of the most densely populated areas in Oman. This will be the second project in the country to incorporate solar energy into the desalination process, strengthening GS Inima’s position as a leader in promoting more efficient and environmentally friendly hybrid solutions.
