Uzbekistan's 1 GW Bukhara Wind Farm Achieves Full Grid Connection
21 March 2025
On March 6, the Bukhara 1 GW Wind Power Project in Uzbekistan achieved full-capacity grid-connected operation, marking the complete commissioning of Central Asia's largest wind power facility under construction. This milestone injects robust momentum into Uzbekistan's green energy transition.
Located in the southern Kyzylkum Desert, the project comprises two wind farms - Bash and Zankerdi, each with 500 MW capacity. It features 158 wind turbines of 6.5 MW each, totaling 1,000 MW installed capacity.
Upon full operation, the facility is projected to generate approximately 3.59 billion kWh of electricity annually while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 1.6 million tons per year. This development significantly enhances local power supply capabilities and optimizes the energy mix, playing a pivotal role in advancing Uzbekistan's energy transition and achieving its 2030 national renewable energy strategy targets.
