Montenegro takes key step toward integrating electricity market with European Union
26 November 2024Montenegro’s electricity transmission system operator, CGES, and the Electricity Exchange MEPX have secured initial access to the Italian Borders Working Table (IBWT) Working Group. According to a statement from the Ministry of Energy, this milestone is a crucial step towards integrating Montenegro’s electricity market with the unified European market.
The access allows Montenegrin institutions to receive key IBWT documentation, including operational agreements, market design frameworks, and contractual structures. This will facilitate the management and implementation of processes that are essential for market integration, as well as activities that will follow its completion.
This development represents significant progress in aligning Montenegro’s electricity market with European standards and showcases the country’s commitment to further European integration. It also reflects the EU’s readiness to embrace Montenegro as an equal partner in the energy sector.
