30 August 2024
Oman’s Nama Water Services (Nama) has awarded the local firm Galfar Engineering & Contracting a contract worth RO117m ($303.9m) to construct water distribution networks in the provinces of Ibri, Yanqul and Dhank in the Al-Dhahirah Governorate.
The project is expected to be completed within 44 months from the commencement date.
The 44-month timeline “reflects the project’s scale and the detailed planning required for such an essential infrastructure development.”
The project aims to improve the efficiency of water distribution, ensuring reliable access to water resources for both residential and industrial purposes across the governorate.
According to a local media report, the design-and-build project “underscores the strategic priority of enhancing the water infrastructure in Al-Dhahirah, a governorate marked by its expanding population and industrial activities”.
Earlier this month, the contractor won a RO18.5m five-year call-off contract from the local business of US oil and gas producer Occidental (Oxy).
The main scope of work on the contract covers the execution of civil works for Oxy Oman’s B53 and B72 units, which will commence on 1 October.
In July, it also won a RO35m contract from Nama Dhofar Services Company to expand the Raysut water reclamation plants.
