ACCIONA Energía’s solar project awarded ‘Green Lane’ status by the Philippines BOI
22 August 2024ACCIONA Energía has announced today that it has been awarded the ‘green lane’ status by the Board of Investments (BOI) in the Philippines for the Daanbantayan Photovoltaic Project (150MW), currently under development in the Island of Cebu.
The ‘green lane’ privilege is granted to investments that are considered strategic for the country, expediting permitting process among government agencies, and accelerating and streamlining the development and construction of the project.
The Daanbantayan Solar Power Project, located in the Municipality of Daanbantayan, at the northern tip of the Island of Cebu, involves an investment of around USD 130 million, and it will create a significant amount of direct and indirect jobs during its construction and operational phases.
The initial power output will be distributed through private Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with CEBECO II, the electricity cooperative operating in the province of Cebu, and any excess energy will be sold at the annual green auction hosted by the Department of Energy (DOE).
Aligned with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP), this project supports the government’s goals to increase the renewable energy capacity, ensure energy security, and promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth. It also aims to demonstrate the benefits of renewable energy to both the economy and the community, showcasing the critical role of clean energy in the country’s future.
ACCIONA has a significant presence in the Philippines, where it has been operating through its Water and Infrastructure divisions since 2016 and has incorporated modern and sustainable technologies, designs, and innovations in flagship projects, such as the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), the DWTP Putatan II water treatment plant, and the DWTP Laguna Lake.
The renewable energy company recently announced the development of a 156MW wind farm in the municipality of Pantabangan, 150 kilometers north of Manila, and has started construction of the 100MW Kalayaan 2 wind farm in Laguna Province.
