OHLA Secures Two New Projects in the Czech Republic Worth Nearly 60 Million Euros
24 July 2024
The global infrastructure group OHLA is expanding its presence in the Czech Republic, a market in which it has been active since 2003. The company, through its subsidiary OHLA ŽS, has been awarded two new contracts in a joint venture. The budget for its participation in these projects amounts to nearly 60 million euros.
Specifically, OHLA ŽS will undertake improvement works at the Brno-Modřice WWTP, which has been in operation since 1960 and has a capacity for 640,000 population equivalents. The company will carry out enhancements in the sludge management of the infrastructure to optimize and modernize its operation. The goal is to implement a mechanical-biological treatment of wastewater with sludge processing, which will improve the energy balance of its treatment and ensure the drying of the entire sludge production of the treatment plant.
Unique Building
The second of the awarded projects is the reconstruction and adaptation of the Repre Cultural Centre in Most, built in 1984. The company will handle the reconstruction of this unique existing building, which has four floors above ground and one underground. This reconstruction will adapt the building for a new use, where the main new function will be the relocation of the municipal library, while preserving the operations of the restaurant, a cinema in place of the original theater, and a planetarium, which will be integrated into the library’s functions.
OHLA has been present in the Czech Republic since 2003, executing notable infrastructure projects. In addition to the recently awarded contracts, the company is carrying out, among others, the reconstruction of the Brno-Královo Pole railway station, the modernization of the Havířov station, and flood protection measures on the Desná River. This new phase is one of the largest natural risk flood protection projects ever undertaken in the country.
