Flatiron joint venture to build $446m Texas bus route

A joint venture between Colorado contractor Flatiron and Missouri infrastructure specialist Herzog has been selected to build a 19km, $446m bus route in Texas.

The two were selected by the VIA Metropolitan Transit Authority of San Antonio to build the North–South Corridor Advanced Rapid Transit project, also known as the Green Line. This will add 26 bus stops, dedicated bus lanes and improved connectivity to the city’s airport and downtown.

Flatiron notes that bus corridors have become increasingly popular in North America, due to their low costs, flexible service options and rapid build speed.

The joint venture will work with local, small and disadvantaged businesses.

Dale Nelson, Flatiron’s executive vice president for operations, said: “This transformational project will connect San Antonio’s vibrant communities while providing an efficient route through the heart of the city.

“The Green Line will speed residents to major employment centres and enhance affordable access to medical facilities and other necessities of daily life.”

Construction is due to begin in early 2025.
