Constuction Begins On Sandton Gate Phase Two In South Africa
19 April 2024A local team of Abcon Developments and Tiber Construction Group has announced the commencement of phase two of the Sandton Gate mixed-use development in Johannesburg in South Africa's Gauteng province. The development is situated on the bank of the Braamfontein Spruit and incorporates green building initiatives
Phase two will see the construction of 10,000 square metres of commercial office space, 12,000 square metres of retail space and a residential block comprising about 300 two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments. Bulk earthworks began on 2 April. Overall completion is targeted for the end of 2025
“Our vision is to create a vibrant, interconnected community where convenience, sustainability and innovation converge to reconstruct urban living and working. Phase two represents the next chapter in our journey towards this vision,” said Bryce O’Donnell, managing director of Abcon Developments
Phase one, which was completed in the first quarter of 2020, includes a 14,000-square-metre commercial mixed-use development as well as The Terrace residential space featuring 136 two-bed and three-bed apartments. Tiber Construction was the main contractor on the scheme
The third phase of Sandton Gate is planned to include an 8,500-square-metre office development, while phases four and five will both comprise 1,200-square metre office blocks.

The Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) has selected Sandton Gate as a pilot project for one of the first green-rated precincts in South Africa.
In April, Abcon Developments also announced the start of work on a new building at the Hertford Office Park in Midrand city in Johannesburg. A sod-turning ceremony was held for the 5,823-square-metre, three-storey office block – Building L – as part of phase one of the development.
