energy infrastructure developer Sempra Infrastructure has placed a turbine order with Danish wind manufacturer Vestas for the development of the 319MW Cimarron wind farm in Mexico.

The order includes supply and installation of 46 V163-4.5MW Vestas wind turbines and a further 18 V162-6.2MW turbines. Upon completion of the wind farm, Vestas will also deliver a ten-year service agreement for operation and maintenance of the wind farm. This will optimise energy production while providing long-term business stability for the project’s operations, the company said in a press statement.

Sempra Infrastructure, a subsidiary of Sempra, is developing the project in Tecate, in the state of Baja California, as part of the Energia Sierra Juarez wind project, which is set to have a total installed capacity of 582MW. The complex is being developed in several phases, with the latest order for the Cimarron wind farm representing the third phase.

Mario Barreiro Castellanos, Mexico head for Vestas, added that the country holds “broad potential” regarding the advancement of the energy transition.

Turbine delivery is planned for the fourth quarter (Q4) of this year, with commissioning expected to commence in Q4 2025, Vestas said.

Vestas also supplies and operates the 306MW Mesa la Paz wind park in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas as part of its ongoing plans to boost its portfolio footprint in the country.
