A joint venture between Dutch engineer Arcadis, British contractor Mace and American consultant Parsons has been chosen as the delivery partner for the $16bn Hudson Tunnel Project. The scheme involves extending and refurbishing the rail link between Washington DC, New Jersey and New York.

The Hudson Tunnel Project will improve the line’s capacity, reliability and resiliency by adding a 4km double-bore tunnel.

The MPA Delivery Partners team will coordinate stakeholders, contractors and consultants to make sure they are working to the requirements of the Gateway Development Commission (GDC).

The joint venture’s scope includes costing, scheduling, risk control, and construction and quality management.

The project is due to receive $6.9bn in funding from the Federal Transit Administration in 2024.

A statement from GDC said: “The delivery partner will be the arms and legs that enable GDC to continue to move this project in high gear as we prepare for heavy construction to start.

“With more major contract awards coming down the pike this year, getting the delivery partner on board ensures we have the strongest and most agile team at the ready.”

Mark Fialkowski, Parsons’ president of infrastructure for North America, said: “The Hudson Tunnel is a critical, once-in-a-generation project that will embody the excellence of our nation’s future infrastructure.”
