Construction work has been completed on the Petrocelli Surgical Pavilion, a $560m, 288,000 sq ft tower built by Skanska at the North Shore University Hospital in Long Island in New York City.
The pavilion will be the new home of the Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital. It will have 18 operating rooms and 132 intensive care rooms. Three hybrid operating rooms with advanced imaging will allow complex surgical procedures.
Skanska used drones equipped with high-resolution cameras and sensors to monitor progress and site conditions. This was backed up by 360° image and video capture to assess progress.
Alan Hartman, executive director of cardiothoracic services at Northwell Health, said: "Now, in the Petrocelli Surgical Pavilion, the new home of the Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital, advanced cardiac procedures will be done in a facility that has the splendour, space and cutting-edge technology that reflects the very procedures this building was built for.”
Patients will enter the Petrocelli Surgical Pavilion later this month following staff training.
