Saudi Arabia announces Pre-Qualified Bidders for 7.2GW Nairyah, Rumah IPP Projects

Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has announced the list of pre-qualified developers for the four Projects Rumah-1, Rumah-2, Nairyah-1 and Nairyah-2, with a capacity of 1800 MW per Plant, all of which operate using natural gas Combined Cycle technology with provision for Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) readiness.
Below is the list of companies pre-qualified for the projects (Name in alphabetical order):

- Jomaih Energy and Water Company
- Korea Electric Power Corporation
- Marubeni Corporation

- Power and Water Utility Company for Jubail and Yanbu (Marafiq)
- Samsung C&T
- Saudi Electricity Company
- Siemens Energy Global GmbH & Co . KG
- Sojitz Corporation
- Summit Global Power
- The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc.
As per the notification, the company stated that these projects come in alignment with the Saudi Green Initiative, and its ambition to achieve greenhouse gases (GHGs) net-zero through the circular carbon economy approach by 2060, or before depending on technology maturity and availability and count as a part of the Saudi energy sector’s endeavors to achieve the Saudi Vision 2030 goals pertaining to improving generation efficiency and reducing costs through diversifying energy production sources, thus reaching the optimal energy mix for electricity production and reducing the amount of liquid fuel used by the country’s electricity production sector, in order to achieve the optimal energy mix for electricity production in the Kingdom from renewable energy and gas at a 50% for each of them.
Earlier during November 2023, SPPC awards 7.2 GW Taiba 1-2 and Qassim 1-2 power plant Projects to Developer.
