China State tops out El Alamein towers in Egypt
30 January 2024
Beijing-based China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) recently topped out the main structure of the D02 section of the Alamein Downtown Towers in Egypt.
In a statement, the contractor said the milestone marked the completion of all four buildings in sections D01, D02, D01M, and D02M.
The statement added that the construction of the Iconic Tower has reached the 36th floor, and the mechanical and electrical, internal and external work are well advanced.
The Alamein Downtown Towers is located on the northern coast of Egypt along the Mediterranean Sea. The project includes designing and constructing a finely decorated Iconic Tower, four ultra-high residential and commercial buildings, and municipal landscape engineering, with a total construction area of approximately 1.1 million square metres.
Among them, the four D buildings have a height of about 210 metres each and a building area of around 160,000 square metres each. The Iconic Tower has a height of approximately 300 metres and a building area of about 460,000 square metres.
In 2021, MEED reported that Egypt had selected a CSCEC to develop the high-rise complex in El Alamein. The complex has a construction area of 110 hectares and includes a 300 metre-high apartment building and four towers that have a height of 200m, as well as commercial areas. The contract was valued at E£30bn ($1.92bn), with CSCEC to provide funding for the development.
According to GlobalData, CSCEC is the world's largest contractor based on revenues. In 2022 it reported revenues of $305bn. The contractor is working on projects all over the world. In late January, it said it is building a helipad in Antarctica for a Chinese station on the Ross Sea.
