DP World starts building East Java container terminal
17 October 2023
DP World and Indonesian conglomerate Maspion Group have begun building a new container terminal in Gresik, East Java.
The joint venture DP World Maspion East Java will operate the terminal with a design capacity of up to 3 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU).
The JV will also develop an industrial and logistics park next to the terminal with an initial land area of 110 hectares. Indonesia’s transportation minister Mr. Budi Karya Sumadi attended the 2 October groundbreaking ceremony.
“We see significant potential in Indonesia as a major hub for global trade,” said DP World chairman Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem.
Maspion Group chairman Dr. Alim Markus said the JV would develop East Java’s infrastructure “in tandem with President Joko Widodo’s vision to accelerate economic growth”.
