Veolia-led consortium bags $324 million contract for UAE’s massive desalination project

Veolia‘s subsidiary, SIDEM, is leading a consortium that has secured a lucrative engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the Mirfa 2 desalination project in Abu Dhabi.
The deal, commissioned by TAQA and ENGIE, is worth nearly $324 million (€300 million) in revenue for Veolia, according to a press statement from the company.
The construction of the state-of-the-art Reverse Osmosis Desalination (M2 RO) plant will kick off in the second quarter of 2023, with a target for completion by 2025.
Once operational, it will stand as the UAE’s third-largest desalination facility, providing a staggering 550,000 cubic meters of potable water per day.
This ambitious project is set to transform water supply, ensuring clean drinking water for approximately 210,000 households in Abu Dhabi.
Beyond meeting the growing demand, the M2 RO plant promises enhanced efficiency and a significantly reduced environmental impact.
With a notable daily output of nearly eight million cubic meters of desalinated water, SIDEM has harnessed the power of reverse osmosis technology, setting a benchmark for energy-efficient desalination solutions worldwide.
