Pattaya in Thailand to get four monorails
24 June 2023
The Thai resort city of Pattaya is intending to build four monorail lines to ease congestion and make it easier for international travellers to make their way to the beach, the Bangkok Post reports.
The plan was announced during a meeting of the city government where the routes and lengths of the four lines were disclosed.
Work will begin with a 9.9km Green Line that will connect with the city’s future high-speed train station, which in turn connects to the east coast airports, all of which are in the process of being expanded (see further reading).
This line will have 13 elevated stations, and will end at Bali Hai pier, where tourists can board boats to the island of Koh Lan.
At the same time, work will be carried out on the Yellow Line, which will link with the city of Chon Buri in the southern part of the province.
When these projects are completed in 2026, work will begin on a second phase, comprising the Purple Line running from Nong Prue, in the east of the city, to Bang Lamung in the north.
After this is complete in 2031, there will be a third phase, to be carried out from 2032 to 2036. This will run between the dolphin roundabout in the centre of the city to the Chaiyaphruek in the south.
