PowerChina Commences 64.2 MW Photovoltaic Project In The Philippines

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in the Philippines for the 64.2 MW photovoltaic (PV) project in Tanauan and Malvar (the T&M PV Project), undertaken by POWERCHINA. Yang Guoliang, the minister counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines, attended the ceremony.

The project will help expand the share and consolidate the position of POWERCHINA in the new energy market in the Philippines. Senior officers from POWERCHINA participated in the ceremony along with senior officials from the Philippines.

Yang extended his congratulations on the groundbreaking of the project in his speech at the event. He said that with the abundant sunshine in the Philippines, the development of photovoltaic energy will not only alleviate the local electricity shortage and promote green and low-carbon transformation but will also drive local employment.

He went on to express the hope that POWERCHINA will give full play to its own advantages to complete the T&M PV Project with high quality and efficiency, so as to benefit the local people as soon as possible.

Jonvic Remulla, governor of Cavite province; and Hermilando Mandanas, governor of Batangas province, also expressed the same hope that POWERCHINA will make full use of Chinese technologies and experiences to contribute to the development of green energy in the Philippines.

The T&M PV Project is located in the southern part of Luzon Island in the Philippines and will consist of two 64 MW PV power stations, covering an area of 982.5 mu (65.5 hectares) and 951 mu, respectively.

After the project is completed, its average annual power generation is expected to be 9.74 million kWh. It will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 97,000 metric tons per year; improve the local energy structure; promote the construction of a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system; and achieve green and healthy development.

After the groundbreaking ceremony, the POWERCHINA project department organized a donation event for Pantihan II Elementary School in Malvar. The school’s teachers and students expressed their gratitude with an energetic Filipino folk dance for the donation of stationery and teaching materials.
