Multifunctional arena in the Czech Republic offers space for 13,300 spectators
HOCHTIEF has been awarded a contract by the city of Brno to build a multifunctional arena with a capacity of 13,300 spectators. The contract signed today in the Czech Republic's second-largest city is worth the equivalent of above EUR 180 million (4.4 billion Czech crowns). The eight-story arena at the exhibition center will include two underground levels and will provide about 1,300 parking spaces.
“We want to build a multifunctional supra-regional complex that will provide the best conditions for organizing cultural, sports, trade fair and congress events at an international level,” said Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková.
Construction can begin following public funding approval expected from the European Commission in the first half of 2023. The objective is to then complete the arena in two and a half years.
The construction of multifunctional halls and sports stadiums is one of HOCHTIEF's core competencies. In Germany, the Group was involved in the stadiums in Mönchengladbach and Dortmund, among others. HOCHTIEF subsidiary Turner has already completed the central stadium for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The leading builder in diverse market segments also built and later modernized Madison Square Garden in New York City and was recently awarded the contract to build a new stadium for the Buffalo Bills team in the National Football League. HOCHTIEF has also built sports facilities in the Czech Republic, including the soccer stadium of the capital city club Slavia Prague.
