30 December 2022
Sacyr have started the operation of the international P3 Ruta 5, Los Vilos - La Serena.
The Ruta del Elqui concession company (Sacyr Concesiones) oversees the execution, renovation, operation and maintenance of this contract for 30 years.
This road, that we are operating once again, was Sacyr's first ever P3 in Chile, back in 1996 and the project that marked the start of international expansion.
Fernando Ruiz de la Torre, Country manager and general manager of Sacyr Concesiones Chile, said at the handover ceremony: “We are really proud of this project, because we are not taking over now, we are coming back to Los Vilos – La Serena”.
The 245-km road is in the Coquimbo region, and it goes through the municipalities of Los Vilos, Canela, Ovalle, Coquimbo and La Serena.
Some of the scheduled works include a six-lane divided highway, service roads at both sides of the highway throughout the road’s entire extension; as well as pedestrian over and under passes for horizontal connections, bike lanes, sidewalks and street furniture.
These improvements will bring greater safety for drivers and shorter travel times.
14 projects in Chile
This new asset comes to expand Sacyr Concesiones’ asset portfolio, with 14 projects in Chile.
The company has eight roads in operation (701 km in total), the Antofagasta (671 beds) and Buin-Paine (under construction, 200 new beds) hospitals. Moreover, it also operates the El Tepual (Puerto Montt) and Chacalluta (Arica) airports. Currently it develops the Ruta 66, Camino de la Fruta highway.
