9 September 2022
Diamond Transmission Partners, a consortium comprised of Mitsubishi Corporation and HICL Infrastructure plc, has been selected by Ofgem as the preferred bidder to own and operate the GBP1.2 billion (US$1.4 billion) high voltage transmission connection link project that will serve the Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm located 89 km off the Yorkshire coast of the UK.
Ørsted’s 1,320 MW Hornsea 2 wind farm will have up to 165 SG 8.0-165 DD wind turbines of 8 MW. The project will be connected to the grid via a high-voltage transmission connection link. The 245 kV high-voltage cables with a total length of over 200 km, including three far-shore cables, cover about 50% of the entire project and connect the wind park to the reactive power compensation platform that brings electricity to the mainland.
