Ferrovial’s US subsidiary Webber has won a $282.9m contract from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to widen eight miles of the I-95 highway from four lanes to eight to ease traffic.

NCDOT says the 182-mile interstate highway was built in the state between the late 1950s and 1980 and has not seen any large-scale improvements since. It says and several of its bridges and ramps no longer meet modern interstate design standards, and multiple widening schemes are underway or in train.

Scheduled for completion in late 2026, Webber’s work includes replacing bridges and overpasses, and upgrading drains.

It is Webber’s second contract in the state. Elsewhere, Webber is working on 52 civil engineering projects in Texas, Georgia, Virginia and North Carolina.

It recently won a contract worth $334m to widen four highways in Texas, and a contract to build a three-mile section of I-74 for $262m.
