Omran Group to build USD-1bn green urban complex in Oman
3 April 2022
Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN) and UAE-based partner Diamond Developers have launched a USD-1-billion (EUR 901m) project for the development of an integrated, urban, mixed-use residential complex in the capital Muscat that will be powered entirely with renewable energy.
The project, known as The Sustainable City- Yiti, will be built on an area of 1 million sq m (1.19m sq yd). Once completed in 2025, the urban complex will comprise 1,657 eco-friendly and energy-efficient residential units, including 300 villas, and its energy needs will be covered entirely with solar power and biogas.
All waste and water in the complex will be recycled and the carbon emissions will be further reduced through the use of clean mobility solutions such as autonomous shuttles and electric cars.
“The project is expected to be one of the region’s most sustainable cities, and by adopting the latest solutions in energy production, vertical farming, humidity harvesting, and autonomous transportation, we aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, in line with Oman Vision 2040," said Diamond Developers' chairman Faris Saeed.
